On September 30, 2015, the Federation Council agreed to the President of the Russian Federation to use the armed forces outside the Russian territory. Such a decision was made in connection with a request of the president of the Syrian Republic to provide his country of military assistance. For the first time since the collapse of the USSR, a Russian soldier has been involved in hostilities in the Middle East.
