Over the years of working in elementary school, I have come to realize that if you don't engage with children during the summer after first grade, or if you engage with them only during the last week, they will forget practically EVERYTHING! They will read very slowly, which will lead to difficulties in math class: by the time we read and understand the problem, half the class will have passed! Most kids will forget not only a few spelling rules learned in first grade, but even how to write some letters or which way to turn them! And I'm not even talking about handwriting and writing speed! How can we introduce new material if part of the class can neither read nor write! By the end of first grade, teachers have automated counting skills. The beginning of second grade... You can't even imagine how many different answers you can get when asking kids to add 7 plus 5. And yet, this can easily be avoided. You just need to work a little bit every day with your first grader from yesterday. Believe me, it's beneficial from an educational point of view! Adults have to work a little even during vacation, and a child is just as much a member of the family as everyone else. Absolute idleness will bring nothing but harm. 'Summer Home Gymnasium' contains material that will allow your child to regularly and effortlessly review everything learned in first grade. The manual consists of 45 lessons. Therefore, you should write in it every other day. On days free from this manual, I would advise you to work with the book 'How I Taught My Daughter the Multiplication Table' and read the books that the teacher assigned for the summer (if possible, read books from the list every day!). Make sure to incorporate study sessions into your child's summer routine. For example, 40-60 minutes after breakfast. If your child is very active and restless, break the work into two lessons of 20-30 minutes each. Then conduct the lessons after breakfast and after lunch. In the morning, when the mind is fresh, do what is more challenging for the child. Such sessions will not tire the child, discipline them, and give them the confidence to feel knowledgeable and skilled from the very first day of second grade. The manual includes many non-standard tasks. The 'Explanations for Lessons' provide detailed guidance on how to reason during their completion. Once your child learns to reason, they will breeze through regular school tasks! 7th edition, stereotyped.
