In the office of police captain Nikolai Sorokin, the body of his partner Tamara was found. According to the note left behind, it appears to be a suicide. However, the captain himself and his young assistants Kolka and Olya think otherwise. There were no reasons for Tamara to voluntarily leave life: she worked as a cafeteria manager and lived comfortably in the post-war period. Sorokin could not imagine that investigating this strange incident would take him back to his youth, when as a young Chekist, he narrowly escaped death in a familiar female guise...
