The vocabulary, usually used to describe contemporary art - from impressionism to installation, from Nabi to neoexpressionism, from symbolism to hyperrealism - gradually turned into a special language, sophisticated and sometimes scaring its complexity. Styles, schools and directions only in rare cases have clear boundaries and amenable to simple definitions, more often they are internally contradictory, complex and often intersect in artistic space. Nevertheless, the concepts of "style", "school" and "direction" continue to exist, and understanding them is absolutely necessary for any discussion of modern art. The definition of their boundaries and the characteristic is still the best way of "mapping" so complicated in composition, and sometimes difficult to understand the subject. This book was conceived as a systematic review consisting of individual essays, and as a common guide for one of the most dynamic and exciting periods in the history of art.
