Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, after reading a new book by Nikolai Alexandrovich Leykin, wrote to him in a personal correspondence: "'Stukin' has serious significance and is worth a lot (in my opinion) and will serve as almost the only monument to the banking abuses of our time, besides it features... birds of a higher order. If 'Satire' [referring to the novel 'Satyr and Nymph', already published by our publishing house] has good details, then 'Stukin' is good in general."
