The collection includes probably the two most famous plays by Ostrovsky - "The Storm" (1859) and "Without a Dowry" (1878). Both plays describe the tragic fate of their heroines. Two shattered lives. Two passionate hearts. Two poignant love stories. And two attempts to break free from the closed circle. In Ostrovsky's time, "The Storm" had the effect of an exploding bomb, which is why the critic Dobrolyubov called its heroine "a ray of light in a dark kingdom." Despite the changing times, the plays do not lose their relevance. Because hypocrisy, false virtue, selfishness, and self-love will always stand against sincere feelings and true impulses of the soul.
