The Steps of Contemplation (Bhavanacrama) is a treatise in three parts, written by the Indian Buddhist philosopher of Kamalashila in Tibet in the VIII century, after the Tibetan king Trison densen. It sets out the method of gradual spiritual perfection, which was adhered to by the mentors of the ancient Indian University of Naland, as opposed to the idea of “instant awakening” who was common at that time in China and brought to Tibet.
attaching great importance to Kamalashil’s ideas about the consistent development of contemplation methods, his Holiness Dalai Lama XIV regularly gives oral comments on the second part of the “bhavanacrams” in different countries of the world. The instructions included in this book were granted to them in Manali, in India, in 1989.
The book is published in the Naland series, manufactured by the Tibet Foundation under the spiritual leadership of Talo Tulka Rinpoche
