Anthology recreates the controversial appearance of Stalin in the cultural memory of several generations of Soviet people. The book presents the rare texts of Stalin himself: his poems, articles, performances, orders of the Supreme Commander, historical toas, memories of contemporaries, documents. Samples of artworks are given, which reflects the recipe of the image of Stalin - a revolutionary, leader, a commander, a person: novels and stories, plays and poems created by eyewitnesses of the Stalinist era and later interpreters - the 2nd half of the XX and early XXI century. The image of Stalin is shown, how it is in folklore and pseudophollastic texts (newers, legends, couplets, jokes).
In anthology included analytical excursions of historians, philosophers, philologists and cultural scientists, reflecting on the personality and character of Stalin, his philosophical and religious performances, about the style of activity and creativity, about the meaning for Russian and Soviet culture and its place in the Russian, Soviet and world history. The mutual polemicness of these scientific and philosophical discourses is due to both the time of understanding and the ideological position of the authors
