A real collection of letters of outstanding church and secular figures to the Russian monastery on Athos covers a rather large period of time. The earliest letter dated to 1848 belongs to the Ep. Porfiry (Uspensky): Starting the scientific work on the history of St. The Athos Mountains, where a detailed narrative will enter the Russian monastery, the author asks to provide him with the necessary archival documents. At the same time, he has a sincere intention to use the “feather to the glory and benefits” of the monastery. This record suggests that after a long break, the Russian monastery again began to attract attention, including the attention of people of scientists. The beginning of the correspondence, as the very revival of Russian monasticism, was laid by the old man-spiritualist Jeroschimonach Jeronym (Solomensov), who in 1840 moved with his desert cell to the Russian Panteleimon monastery at the request of the Greek elders in order to attract help from Russia for the monastery, brought to the extreme poverty and squalor
