The correspondence of Count N.P. Ignatieva, placed below, is stored in two different places: on the Holy Mount Athos in the archive of the Russian Monastery of St. Panteleimon and in the State Archive of the Russian Federation in Moscow in the Personal Fund of Count N.P. Ignatiev. Ignatiev’s contacts with the Russian Athos abode lasted more than forty years from 1864 to 1908. During this time, the political situation in the world has changed more than once, much has changed on the Holy Mountain and in Russia, new people and new circumstances appeared. All this was reflected in the Athos correspondence of Ignatiev, so the content of letters is an important source for studying the history of Athos, the Panteleimon Monastery, the Russian spiritual presence on the Holy Mountain, the ties of Athos and Russia and Russian diplomats
