Thomas Mine Reed (1818-1883) is well known to the Russian reader for at least one and a half centuries. In his homeland, in England, interest in him for a while died out, but flared up with renewed vigor in the 21st century, not least thanks to his Russian translations: he is benevolently mentioned by Chekhov, according to our publications, Mine Rida Laureate of the Nobel Prize Cheslav Milos has learned Russian, And young Vladimir Nabokov himself translated him, while with poems. It is also important that at the beginning of the creative path, Mine Reed had a decisive influence on the work of A. Conan Doyle.
In the next volume of his collected works undertaken by the Prestige Buk publishing house, the novel “The Disaster and Tale from the Island” and “Despar, Player” is included. All translations are given in a new, full version from the English primary sources
