Emilio Salgari is one of the masters of the adventure genre, who received the nickname Italian Jules Verne. His life was filled with amazing contradictions: dreaming of traveling, he never left the limits of his native Italy, the circulation of his books reached hundreds of thousands of copies, he was awarded the title of the knight of the Order of the Italian crown for his contribution to literature, but he never crawled out of poverty.
