The book of the outstanding poet Vladimir Britanish (b. 1933, Leningrad) contains together memories of geological expeditions in different parts of Russia and the USSR, stories and a story, as well as some verses about the years of wanderings. The first book of Britanish verses was called “Search” (1958) Joseph Brodsky said about her twenty years later: This is such a game of words: geological searches and just a search - the meaning of life and everything else. Britanish prose-prose is peering into the characters, into the life and fate of the people with whom he worked or met. In prose, just as in poetry, he appears as a passionate expressor of the ideals of humanity, mutual understanding, and the fraternity of people belonging to the formation of idealists of their generation. Geology in his prose is not so much the space of life and action as a magnetic field, turning a person to the pole of “fidelity and honesty”, like the sea of Conrad or Saint -Exupery aircraft. The book will interest everyone who is interested in the fate of Russian culture
