Nadezhda Nikolaevna Rakhmanova, a sound engineer at the Mariinsky Theatre, believes that sound engineering is an art. In the proposed book, she explores the sound recording of jazz music and proves the expression of creative individuality in the work of a sound engineer. All theoretical generalizations are based on the analysis of recordings from 17 albums, which may be of interest not only to practicing sound engineers but also to jazz enthusiasts. The book also includes a substantial appendix (with over 180 sound recordings) that comprises a comprehensive analysis of jazz music recordings, as well as a recording of the jazz standard 'Autumn Leaves' mixed by four studio sound engineers. The appendix significantly expands the author's argumentation. Each section is accompanied by a graphic link to an internet resource where the discussed album is available.
