1946. Just liberated from Japanese occupation, Korea is undergoing American influence. Against the backdrop of the country's changes, nineteen-year-old Sondju hopes to live modernly, continue her education, and marry her childhood friend Kungu, whom she loves. But her dreams, inspired by Western influences, clash with tradition and family customs. Her parents arrange a marriage with a more suitable groom in their opinion, who does not share Sondju's views and sees the essence of marriage completely differently.
