Song folklore of Soviet prisons and camps

This book is a corrected edition of the double-volume folk songs of prisoners, published in 2001. Materials include dozens of new records of the prison folklore, as well as texts learned from rare publications and archives. Most songs reflect the song traditions of prisoners in Soviet prisons and camps. However, the popularity of songs suggests that the views expressed in them were known in Russia. And therefore, the songs can serve as a source to study the attitude towards power not only prisoners, but also a significant part of the Russian-speaking population of the country.
