Alexander Dmitrievich Kastalsky (1856-1926) belongs to the merit in the creation and development of a “new direction” in Russian spiritual music of the turn of the 19th-XX centuries. The composer method of Castalsky suggested an organic combination of the traditions of the Russian composer school of the XIX century, the techniques of folk polyphony, ancient Russian chants and the traditions of the clergy singing. The real collection includes the chosen chants from the all -night vigil and the divine liturgy, the processing of folk songs, works on verses of Russian poets.
