Prince Gabriel Petrovich Gagarin (1745-1807) - the prominent political figure of Catherine II and Paul I - lived interesting and stormy life, combining the passion for fire with state activities, commercial classes with sophisticated debauchery. Hasic religiosity got along with his soul with incredible creature.
Gagarin"s poetry is not without grace, in the style of fashionable then Rococo, tells about gentle, but passionate love. However, the most bright prince Gagarin showed himself in philosophical and religious works.
In the last years of life, closed in his estate, he wrote a book of repentance "of the fun of the privacy of my village in the village of theologian": sincere repentance in the sins of youth gives him the strength to spiritually clear and find enlightenment through the love of God.
All the texts of the book first come to the modern reader, as if resurrected from the Treasury of Bibliophile.
Composition, afterword, comments S.V. Suchkov
