Olga Sedakova’s book “The Wisdom of Hope and other conversations about Dante "continues to translate Dante” (2020), however, these are no longer questions of Dante’s translation into Russian, but a conversation about his" innate and indefatigable thirst for understanding", about Dante-Subject And the poet-theologist.
The book is divided into three parts. The first section contains works directly related to the "Divine Comedy". Among them, we especially note the first -published essay "Circle, Cross, Man", dedicated to the Ravenna Dante and his anthropology, unexpectedly consonant with early Christian thought. The second section includes work about the Italian context of Dante and the presence of Dante in Russian poetry. The third small section includes translations of fragments from a "new life" and returns us to the beginning of the Dante path. All translations from Italian and other languages are made by the author. Almost all the essays included in the book are published either for the first time in Russian, or in general for the first time.
Including the experience of many readers and researchers - Dantologists, poets, philosophers, theologians - Sedakova’s book is a deeply personal and largely unexpected reading of the "Divine Comedy". In a dialogue with such a grandiose and provocative interlocutor, like Dante, the author puts forward the topics that are important for her as a poet, philologist and thinker: hope and will, wisdom and cause, geometry and flesh, creation and freedom.
