On February 5, 1878, Vera Zasulich came to see the St. Petersburg mayor Trepova and seriously injured him with two shots from a revolver to the stomach. She threatened from 15 to 20 years of imprisonment, but the jury fully acquitted her. The acquittal of the jury was influenced, among other things, the position of the chairman of the court Anatoly Koni, who after that fell into long -term disgrace.
