The book of the German military leader and historian Hugo von Freitaga-Loringhofen (1855–1924) is devoted to a problem that has not lost its relevance today-the relationship of politics and strategy. Written on the eve of the First World War, it contains a brief outline of the European military-political history of the New Age. The main idea of the author is simple: a strong state needs a strong army, and political intervention in the sphere of responsibility of generals leads to deplorable consequences. In this polemic book, a way of thinking is perfectly represented, characteristic of the German military elite of the beginning of the 19th century
