The book of Professor Yale University, a specialist in the history of Eastern Europe, Timothy Snyder, is devoted to the transition of modern Russia from the “Politics of Predestination”, which existed during the Soviet Union, to the “Policy of Eternity”. Within the framework of this doctrine, the nation is proclaimed an innocent victim of endless aggressors, neighbors turn into enemies, history into propaganda, and time - into a series of great deeds of the past, the repetition of which they expect from the future. Serious political and social problems force the United States and Europe to look closer to the “policy of eternity”, trying on it on itself. But this path has nothing to do with the path to freedom. Six chapters of this book are six important stages along this path: from the revival of totalitarian discourse in 2011 and Russian aggression against the European Union in 2013 to the revolution in Ukraine in 2014 and the election of Donald Trump in the US President in 2016
