The attention of readers is proposed to the work of the outstanding domestic historian E.V. Tarle (1874-1955), written under the immediate impression of the Russian Revolution of 1905. Based on the Great Historical Material, the author analyzes absolutism as a certain sociological phenomenon, not limited to the consideration of his fate in any kind of fate in any One country, but making attempts to find out what can give an analysis of the fall of absolutism to understand the nature of social evolution in general. The book became a speech against the Russian autocracy, the prediction of the inevitability of its fall by analogy with the fate of Western European absolutism.
