The word "Russophobia", a few years ago, is almost taboo, now everyone has a hearing. And this is not just about the term, but about the phenomenon that our country had to face after February 24, 2022. The Western world literally covered the pandemic of hatred for Russia and everything Russian. You are Russian - it means you are guilty. Meanwhile, a look at Russia through the optics of superiority is not just as another, but as a stranger, as a huge country, populated slavishly with submissive and disenfranchised people, controlled by a tyrant-dictator striving for world hegemony, its roots go into deep antiquity. And as a holistic ideology of Russophobia is formed in the 19th century, in the age of the formation of classical ideologies, public opinion and press.

This book is not at all the history of Russophobia that does not generalize theoretical work. This is a sketch, a gallery of images of Russia, compiled on the basis of an analysis of the works of European authors, mainly French, who wrote about our country in the 19th century, who visited here or never came here. Were they convinced by Russophobes, ordinary conjunctures, or simply followed fashion trends? Many of the works of these authors were not translated into Russian, therefore, perhaps, the reader will be interested in getting to know the opinion of the educated Europeans of the 19th century about our country. Maybe then metamorphoses that occurred with current Western politicians or inhabitants will not seem so amazing. After all, even now the same myths and stereotypes of perception are acting. In the 21st century, we remain for the West by eternal and unchanged Russia
