Highlighting four sources of power in human societies (ideological, economic, military and political), this multi -volume work traces their relationship throughout history.
The subject of the first volume is the relationship of these sources of power during the Neolithic, ancient Middle Eastern civilizations, the classical Mediterranean era and medieval Europe up to the industrial revolution in England. In this volume, explanations of the origin of the state and social stratification, cities-states, militaristic empires, as well as constant interaction between them, world religions of salvation and, finally, special dynamism of medieval and early-media Europe, are proposed. In the final chapters, generalizations are presented about the nature of social development in general, various forms of social communities and the role of classes and class struggle in history. This volume includes a new preface with the author’s assessment of the influence and heritage of his labor.
