The book “Russia and the United States” was light in 1944, when both countries - the ally in the war with fascist Germany - reached maximum rapprochement in the history of the 20th century. The main thesis of the book: both nations, Russians and Americans are congenial and between them, according to the author, there have never been and will never be fundamental contradictions at the level of vital values. The book is designed mainly for the American reader, so more attention in it is paid to Russia. But even in Russia, three quarters of a century after writing it, the book is read with interest and leads to thoughts. Pitimim Sorokin proves in it that Russia, not being a democratic country, has always been and remains a country democratic in spirit, in its main social institutions. The cold war that began, prompted the author during the second edition of the book in 1950 to include another chapter in it, specially devoted to the consideration of the causes of a strict confrontation between the two victorious countries soon after the war.
The publication is designed for everyone who is interested in the history of Russia and the USA, relations between the two countries, the scientific and journalistic work of Pitirim Sorokin
