Political aspects of the relationship between Romania and Hungary in the XXI century. They are considered in the context of historical heritage: redistribution of borders in Europe after the first and Second World Wars. Particular attention is paid to the status and problems of the Hungarian minority, which ended up outside the Hungarian state. The role and influence of external factors - the European Union, NATO and Russia - on the emergence and settlement of conflict situations between Romania and Hungary - are analyzed
