The monograph is devoted to the history of the rhythm of prose of the XIX century, which begins by the work of N.N. Karamzin as the founder of Russian prose ends with the stories of A.P. Chekhov, completing the classic period of Russian literature. An analysis of the rhythm of texts is based on a unique method of determining the rhythm of prose according to several rhythmic factors, taking into account the degree of rhythm, expressed decimal fraction. The main goal of the monograph is to show on the material of the rhythmic and intonational structure of the literary development paths of the Russian literary language, with the prospect of further linguistic literary research. The texts collected in monographs not only represent the aesthetic panorama of “elegant literature”, but can also serve as a practical material on the study of the rhythm of written and sounding texts for actors, journalists, teachers, and translators of fiction
