In March 2019, an outstanding scientist, Nobel laureate Zhores Ivanovich Alferov passed away. He was known not only for his scientific developments, but also by active social activities - J.I. Alferov invariably defended the interests of Russian science and knew well what position it was in.
In his book, he compares the position of science in modern Russia with what was in the USSR. The author does not idealize the Soviet past, but nevertheless believes that then science has developed at a high pace, and now “ten percent of the population of Russia, having captured all national wealth into its own hands, care much that our country reaches advanced positions in the world.”
Removing lessons from the past, J.I. Alferov proposed specific measures to withdraw Russian science from a deep crisis
