The biographical book of Maxim Gureyev "Doguchkin" is, in fact, the first study on the outstanding Russian athlete and the aircraft, the person, with the name of which in Russia of the turn of the 19th-XX centuries associate the beginning of professional sports and aviation affairs. The book made an attempt to understand and analyze the motives of the great and paradoxical actions of S. I. Poychkin, his victories and defeats, ups and tragic falls. Odessa is in origin, a Muscovite in relation to life, a Petersburger in the warehouse of the mind, Pogochkin was entered into the most diverse circles of Russian society. Kuprin and Averchenko, Kataev and Chukovsky, Utesov and Gilyarovsky, Olesha and Babel, Bunin and Don Aminado wrote about him. Sergei Isaevich himself was also prone to literary work, leaving behind a number of memoirs.
Unfortunately, the hero of the book lived a short life - he died in 1916 in Petrograd at the age of 39. However, the memory of his first victories at the Odessa cycling industry, about his flights at the Farman IV airplane in St. Petersburg and Odessa, Moscow and Kyiv, Riga and Minsk are alive and still excites the imagination of fans of Russian history and Russian literature
