Pitimi Sorokin read the lecture on social pedagogy and politics in 1922 in Uzhgorod (which was then part of Czechoslovakia), where he was after expulsion from Soviet Russia. In the book written on the basis of these lectures, the scientist considers those factors and social institutions that somehow educate or contribute to the education of a person throughout his life. These include a geographical environment, a family, a school, a selected (or imposed) profession, religion, and state. What should they be so that a person becomes, if not perfect, then at least “normal”, and society - “healthy” and successfully developing? The ideas underlying this book were subsequently implemented in studies that Pitimi Sorokin conducted in the declining years as part of the Harvard Center for the Study of Creative Altruism created by him.
For many years, this book, unfortunately, remained almost unknown to either specialists or wide circles of readers.
Since the issues raised in “Popular Essays ...” still remain relevant, and threats due to mistakes in social pedagogy are becoming more terrible and serious - and maybe already irreparable - this The book will be interesting not only to specialists in the field of pedagogy and sociology, but also to everyone who thinks about the upcoming fate of mankind with anxiety
