The book includes the works of two outstanding domestic historians Robert Vipper and Sergey Platonov. Released one after another shortly after the October Revolution, they are still free from the ideological restrictions imposed from the outside - unlike subsequent editions of Vipper"s work published here, in which his opponents saw (possibly not quite fair) the apology of Stalinism. In relation to the outstanding personality of Ivan the Terrible Vipper and Platonov, they agree in some ways, they diverge in some ways, they stop on different aspects of his activities, find their explanations for his actions, arrange accents in their own way, but the portrait of the king, whose rule, becomes more voluminous. It is the most important period of Russian history.
