In short, the United States of America turned from a relatively small, mainly agrarian state located on the periphery of the system of international relations in a powerful power that plays a key role in modern world politics. This work is the first experience in domestic historiography, which contains the evolution of the US foreign policy from the moment of their occurrence at the end of the XVIII century. And to the present day, its main stages and events stand out. The authors trace the process of forming and improving the foreign policy mechanism of the United States and the development of the conceptual base on which it functioned, the modernization of program-targeted attitudes in foreign policy.
Important places are occupied by plots related to the analysis of the main areas of the US regional policy. Particular attention is paid to relations between the United States and Russia, to identify both a circle of conflict problems and the sphere of their coinciding interests.
The work is based on the study of a wide range of sources and literature of both domestic and American historians. It is the result of many years of teaching authors who for a long time read the relevant lecture courses in MGIMO and at the Faculty of History of Moscow State University
