The textbook is dedicated to the history of Russian journalism of the first half of the XX century. In it, it is first represented in unity, including the history of Russian journalism of the beginning of the century, the history of Soviet journalism and the history of Russian foreign journalism. Journalism is considered in the context of the then processes of the mass -support and politicization of society during the formation of a system of mass communications. The positive and negative features of the development of Soviet journalism of the NEP, Stalinism with its manipulation system of public opinion, and the period of the Great Patriotic War are revealed. It is told about the journalistic work of L. N. Tolstoy, John of Kronstadt, M. O. Menshikov, A. S. Suvorin, V. M. Doroshevich, etc.
