The book that is proposed to the reader is one of the most outstanding monuments of Russian memoir literature. In the stories of the Moscow noblewoman E.P. Yankkova, recorded by her grandson D. D. Blagovo, the diverse scenes of the private life of the Staromoskovsky family and her surroundings, which became a kind of encyclopedia of this life, were deployed. In the narrative, both memories of personally seen and experienced, and much of what reflected the experience of five generations, whose knowledge and memory deposited in living oral tradition, were connected. Including --- stories about the times that began with the era of Peter the Great, with whom the great-grandfather E.P. Yankova, the famous historian V. N. Tatishchev, who fulfilled the secret instructions of the king, was personally familiar with the unfortunate "palace" adventure of her father p. . M. Rimsky-Korsakov, on the execution of Emelyan Pugachev, about the events of the time of the Patriotic War of 1812.
This book was prepared for the publication by a doctor of philological sciences T. I. Ornatskaya, who wrote an explanatory article for it and carried out together with N.V. Blagovo a great work on the compilation of an extensive reference apparatus, which included notes, a dictionary of rare and a dictionary of rare low -use words, lists of abbreviations and illustrations, indicators of names and geographical names.
The book will be interesting to both professional historians and literary scholars and a wide circle of readers interested in the history of our country
