The readers of the outstanding domestic linguist and literary critic I.M. Tronsky (1897-1970) are proposed to the attention of readers, whose name is widely known not only by philologists, but also to everyone who has ever been interested in ancient culture. The book describes the origin and formation of the Latin language, its development and distribution throughout Italy, including during the early Roman Empire, and the languages of ancient Italy preceding the Latin language are briefly considered.
