In recent years, the Russian Federation has been pursuing a very active foreign policy, including in the post -Soviet space. Of particular interest here is the Central Asian region, where the political interests of Russia are closely related to economic ones. In the promotion of their interests in the region (primarily the project of the Eurasian Economic Union), our country is faced with the active "circuit" of large geopolitical competitors: USA, China, EU. At the same time, the role of other actors is growing in the region: Turkey, Iran, Pakistan and India. Elite communities grouping around the heads of states have a priority in Central Asia. Therefore, from the point of view of promoting its political and economic initiatives, and Russia, and China, and the United States strive to enlist their support and build long -term partnerships with them. The monograph conducted an analysis of the intra-elite layout of forces in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, on the basis of which the short-term and medium-term forecasts of the development of the political situation in the two above-mentioned Central Asian republics are given and the corresponding recommendations for the modernization of the foreign policy of the Russian Federation in the region
