In the collection of materials of the VI International Scientific Conference of Young Orientalists, held at the Institute of the Far East of the Russian Academy of Sciences in November 2018, reports are presented on various aspects of the functioning and cooperation of the East Asian countries in the conditions of a changing world. The authors consider important problems of the political and economic development of China, Japan, Mongolia, South and North Korea, analyze the influence of internal and external factors on the prospects and key spheres of international cooperation in the region and beyond. Given the accumulating confrontation potential in the modern world, special attention is paid to the consideration of controversial issues and the directions of competition between the countries of East Asia and other significant international players. Several reports are devoted to topical issues of historical heritage, the study of the sociocultural space of the states of the region
