The first book written by M.S. Gorbachev, after leaving the post of President of the USSR in the winter of 1992, was published in June 1992 on the basis of documents and publications of the second half of 1991 (some of them were not published anywhere else), the author explains his attitude to the processes that led to the collapse of the unified states describes the struggle to preserve the transformed union. The book gives the most valuable historical evidence of the recent past of our country and contains many, unfortunately, of the conflicts that has come true, including on the relationship of Ukraine and Russia.
The second edition was prepared by Gorbachev-Fund and the publishing house "The whole world" in the fall of 2022, besides the text of the book of M.S. Gorbachev’s publication contains an introductory article by Yu. Baturin and the section "Evidence of contemporaries of the era" as part of the materials of A. Arbatov, A. Grachev, R. Grinberg, V. Dvorkin, V. Mironenko, G. Pryakhin. The book includes photo illustrations related to the described events.
2nd edition, supplemented
