The publication is the first university textbook in the domestic and foreign regional studies, which discusses the role and place of the main countries and regions of the world in modern world politics. The material of the entire post-bipolar period analyzes the following range of issues: military-strategic and trade and economic potential, the potential of “soft power”, the main priorities and directions of foreign policy, a place in the system of military-political unions, integration associations and international organizations. Particular attention is paid to the development of relations between these countries and regions with Russia. The publication shows that, despite the obvious weakening of the world positions of the Western countries, the West centric world order still has great resources and opportunities for implementation.
The textbook is written taking into account the latest achievements of domestic and foreign regional studies. It was created on the basis of the course “Countries and regions in world politics” read in the magistracy of MGIMO (the direction “Foreign Regional Studies”), but can be used by students studying in the areas of training and specialties “International Relations” and “Regional Studies”
