The monograph of the scientists of the scientists of the study of Vietnam and the ASEAN of the Institute of the Far East of the Russian Academy of Sciences is devoted to the results of the semi-century activity of the Association of Southeast Asia (ASEAN), its role in maintaining peace, security and cooperation in the region, urgent problems and prospects for its strengthening and development. The monograph shows the features of the integration process in the region against the background of a powerful rise in China, which continues to weaken the dominant positions of the United States and the intensified rivalry between the great powers in the struggle for influence in Asia. The authors have analyzed a set of contradictions in Southeast Asia, first of all, territorial disputes in the South China Sea and the ways of their peaceful political decision. Particular attention is paid to the state and prospects of Russia"s relations with ASEAN.
The book is addressed to scientists and practitioners involved in peace and security problems in East Asia and the Asia-Pacific region, teachers and university students, a wide range of readers.
