In the fifth Tome of "Social and Religious History of Jews" Salo W. Baron paints a wide picture of the ideological and religious life of the Jewish communities of the Diaspora during the early and high Middle Ages. Particular attention is paid not only to the controversy of Judaism with other monotheistic religions, but also to disputes within the Jewish communities themselves, which led to the Karaites.
