Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) is one of the most famous fairy tale writers in the world. He was born into a poor family of a shoemaker and a washerwoman. Despite a difficult life, the boy was immersed in a fairy-tale world from an early age: his father often read him magical stories aloud, and his inclination towards fantasy and dreaminess helped him cope with life's hardships. At the age of 14, Andersen went to Copenhagen to, as he told his mother, "become famous." His fantastic tale "A Walking Tour from the Holmen Canal to the Eastern Point of Amager" was published in 1829 and was well received by the reading public, bringing the writer fame. In 1833, Andersen received a royal grant and set off to travel. Over a year and a half, he visited Germany, Switzerland, France, and Italy. The journey greatly inspired the writer, and in 1835, he published his first collection of fairy tales. The book immediately became popular and was a great success. In total, Andersen wrote over 160 fairy tales. "The Snow Queen" is one of the writer's most famous fairy tales, enjoyed by children and adults worldwide. It has been adapted into numerous animated and live-action films, a ballet, and an opera. "The Snow Queen" is a story of love and loss, of long searches and struggles. The desperate attempts of a girl, who wanders barefoot through the world to find and bring her kidnapped brother back home, touch the hearts of both the characters in the book (aided by a river and flowers, doves and crows, a robber girl and a prince with a princess, a reindeer and inhabitants of distant northern lands, and finally even angels) and readers - both young and old. This story about the loyalty of the human heart and the mercy of the world promises each of us that no matter what winds may blow over the earth, whatever separations and losses may stand in our way - ultimately, everything will be good and right, that's how the world is arranged! For elementary school age. The text of the work is provided without abridgment.
