If modern Russia had disappeared from the face of the earth, then in the works of Chekhov could be restored the picture of the Russian life at the end of the XIX century in the smallest details, D. S. Merezhkovsky predicted in 1906. According to E. I. Zamyatina, "to study Russian life in this era, all written by Chekhov is such a document as the chronicle of Nesor to study the start of Russia". And after all, Chekhov, whose creativity had such a powerful influence on world culture, often called the writer of the twentieth century - and this is true. He largely updated the poetic of prose, made a revolution in the theater, proposed a special type of the author"s relationship and reader: on equal, without explicit prophecy and school. In the works of Chekhov, the formula "talk in different languages ​​ceased to be a metaphor, and it also became a discovery. In reproduction of conflicts based on the misunderstanding of words, actions, behavior of another, even the closest person, Chekhov also inexhaustible, as in comic plots: an adult - a child, a man - a woman, a husband - wife, people - the intelligentsia, finally, not understanding myself. But apparently, in some respects Chekhov argued from the twentieth century.
