The philosopher and thinker Niccolò Machiavelli, without whom it is impossible to imagine Italy of the Renaissance era, left behind, perhaps, not as bright a legacy as his active, energetic contemporaries - representatives of the Borgia and Medici clans. Coming from the family of a modest lawyer, the future author of "The Prince" never stopped learning, gave himself a university-level education, and in an era of military coups, fragile alliances, and skillful intrigues, remained a bookish man, building a career as a bureaucrat and leading a predominantly bureaucratic life. His influence on the culture and philosophy of the Renaissance, and through them on the entire political history, was more profound. The position of an observer in the midst of the powerful of this world provided him with an endless source of reflections, which Machiavelli expressed in his writings with his inherent conciseness and precision. The accuracy of his historical assessments earned him the reputation of almost an official chronicler of his explosive era, which continues to stir minds, and his keen political intuition, deep knowledge of military affairs, and the art of statecraft gifted the world with one of the key figures in political science in his person. This edition includes two main works by Niccolò Machiavelli - "The Prince" (1513) and "On the Art of War" (1519-1520).
