The famous phrase "The end justifies the means" has become one of the most popular in the world, and "The Prince" by Niccolò Machiavelli (1469-1527) is the main book in history on power, state, and politics, forever becoming a guide for many state leaders, leading politicians, and businessmen. This treatise by the legendary political figure, historian, and philosopher of the Renaissance era, written five centuries ago, thoroughly covers the methods of governance and all the skills that should be in the arsenal of every successful ruler. Deeply studying military history and considering his own experience in organizing the troops of the Florentine Republic in another treatise - "The Art of War" - Machiavelli subjected to careful analysis the strategy and tactics of military actions (for example, he sharply criticizes armed forces consisting of mercenaries). In this edition, both of his greatest treatises are published together. The treatise "The Art of War" is supplemented by an article by the eminent historian Hans Delbrück, in which this work by Machiavelli is thoroughly analyzed.
