"Sovereign" is the most significant and ambiguous work of the Florentine statesman of the Renaissance Niccolo Machiavelli. For many years this book was associated with the policy of poison and dagger. After the publication of the "Sovereign", the term "Machiavellism" appeared, denoting cynicism, permissiveness, duplicity in politics. However, today many of the author’s provisions are not so unambiguously perceived by finding their embodiment in the history of the twentieth century. In addition to the "Sovereign", this publication publishes another famous work of Machiavelli "Reasoning about the first decade of Titus Libya", complementing and clarifying many of the issues of the author’s main work. Both texts are presented in the most modern translation today and are equipped with notes
