Viktor Geydarovich Shirali (1945-2018) is one of the most significant representatives of the Leningrad/St. Petersburg poetry of the post-war generation. In the 1960-1980s, Shirali occupied a special place in the cultural landscape of the then Petersburg-somewhere on the border between the official and unofficial culture, not really belonged to either one or the other. Belonged, as in the later years, in essence, one poetry. The book included the chosen poems of the poet of all periods of his work.
