Honore de Balzac is a great French writer, who, according to Leo Tolstoy's definition, "at that time, everyone was learning to write." In numerous novels of his "Human Comedy" (subtitled "Studies of Manners"), he recreated a colorful, cruel, and multifaceted world, reflecting the life of all classes of contemporary society. This edition includes stories and tales about love, which Balzac himself defined as "scenes of private life": "The Country Ball," "The Side Family," "Marital Consent," and "The Silhouette of a Woman," as well as the brilliant story "The Illustrious Gaudissart" - about the adventures of a cunning Parisian commercial traveler who, "satiated with the vices of Paris, knows how to put on the mask of provincial simplicity."
