This book continues the series 'Great Journeys' and presents to the modern reader the results of expeditions by two outstanding Russian travelers - Grigory Nikolaevich Potanin (1835-1920) and his wife and companion - Alexandra Viktorovna Potanina (1843-1893). G. E. Potanin was a scientist-encyclopedist, a multifaceted personality, a man of a bright destiny. At the age of eight, he firmly decided to become a traveler and did not deviate from this path. He embarked on his first expedition at the age of 28, and planned his last one when he turned 64. His wife accompanied him on almost all of his famous expeditions, not just as a life companion, but as an independent researcher. She became the first woman accepted as a member of the famous Russian Geographical Society. They traveled thousands of kilometers through unexplored territories of Altai, Siberia, China, Tibet, and Mongolia. They conducted brilliant scientific research, collected rich geological and botanical collections.
